In-House Programs

In-House programs consist of guest speakers who want to share with our patrons using media, slide shows or other tools to illustrate their presentation; movies and other passive programming that is planned for your use and enjoyment. Writing for Children and Young Adults (Ages 16 and up)

Writer and instructor, Simon Rose, will run a condensed version of his workshop Writing for Children and Young Adults. Start to learn how to write effective, authentic, and appealing fiction for young people and how to turn your ideas into compelling stories. Explore the writing process from initial concept to finished work including story structure, the creation of outlines and the importance of research, editing and revision. Examine ways to to research publishing houses where you can submit your work, along with cover letters, synopses and sample chapters. The focus is on writing for readers, 8 - 14. However some of the materials may also cover older and younger age groups. There is a $10 registration fee. Space is limited.

Simon Rose is a Calgary author of eleven novels and more than 80 non-fiction books for children and young adults. He offers programs for schools and is also an instructor for adults with the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University, and Chinook Learning Services. As well, he offers online workshops and courses for both children and adults. Simon provides services for writers, including manuscript evaluation, editing, and coaching in all genres, plus copywriting services for the business community.

Dutch Blitz Night (Grades 8-12)

Off the Beaten Trail: An Intro to hiking in the Canadian Rockies

Our presenters, Hannah and Dennis, direct the Outdoor Leadership Programs at Prairie College. They are outdoor enthusiasts and have a lot to share.
